MPA Online
Please read the information about how to register and use MPA Online.  Remember two things about usernames and passwords: your MPA Online registration is different from your FBA Website registration, and MPA Online registrations do not carry over from year-to-year.  Questions and problems should be directed to your district chair, and if they can't help contact Josh Bula at joshbula@gmail.com.

All-State Results
You must be a member of FMEA, and have a user account for this website before you can access the results (Your user account from last year should work this year--This is not your MPA Online username).

Adjudication Seminars
Registration forms are now on-line for the Certification and Re-certification seminars to be held just before the FMEA convention in January.

Handbook
The FBA Constitution, Bylasw, and Handbook have been updated for the 2008-2009 school year.

All-State and Honor Band Forms
Application forms for All-State and nomination forms for Small School Honors Band and Middle School Honors Band are now on the Forms page under "For Directors."

Elementary School Bands
I am an elementary school Music teacher but I'm also a choral and band director at the same elementary school. Even though elementary school bands are uncommon in Florida I am very curious to know what other elementary schools across the state have band programs. Please let me know of any elementary school band programs.

Re: Elementary School Bands

I teach in Pasco county, and we have a few elementary schools who have after school band programs. In most cases, the programs are quality programs, and the students have much success. Our programs include mostly fifth grade students, although some programs also allow fourth graders to participate. They meet twice a week. I have found that the elementary band program that feeds into my school has certainly enhanced my program. I sometimes have a few students who do not continue as sixth graders, but most do, abd they enjoy it a lot. In fact, about 10 of my current beginners were in elementary school programs, which is quite high for us. As long as the kids are given instruments that best fit their body make-up and other physical features, the success rate can be very high.

I hope this helps. Please call me for more information. Thanks for the post, and best wishes to you in this endeavor!!

Re: Elementary School Bands

I am teaching in Marathon, Fl. I teach band 5-12. In Ohio, where I'm from, having a 5th or even 4th grade beginning band is commen. I was suprised to see that most bands start in 6th grade and have full band every day!  We have a very small program and the director before me started a 5th grade band to help sustain the program..I am in danger of losing it next year, but now I have one. We meet during the specials time for just over 30 minutes. I have percussion on Mondays-Full band Tuesday/Thursday- Brass on wednesdays and Woodwinds on Fridays.  Our 5th grade class has 88 students, 30 of them joined band!! I hope I can keep this beginning band program next year:)
