High School:

Middle School:

A middle school student conductor may conduct any piece on the FBA Concert Music List as long as it has at least three (3) different meters.

Information:

1. Student Conducting is considered a solo event, but it is not counted in the maximum number of entries in which a student may participate.
2.  A school may enter one student conductor per band entry, but may not use the same student conductor for more than one band entry. Student conductors must be enrolled in the school’s band program.
3. a) District Student Conductor will conduct his/her band immediately following the sight-reading phase of the
   Music Performance Assessment in the sight-reading room for the sight-reading adjudicator.
   b) State Student Conductor will conduct his/her band immediately preceding or following the clinic phase of the Music Performance Assessment in the clinic room for the concert commentator.
4. The sight-reading/student conductor adjudicator at District and State Music Performance Assessments will
   make a taped critique for the Student Conductor
5. The music for student conducting is chosen by the Concert Music Committee and published in the December Bulletin.
6. In lieu of the Concert Music Committee’s recommendation, a Junior High or Middle School Band may select
   any piece of music on the F.B.A. Music List providing it contains at least three (3) different meters.
7. A full or condensed score with measures numbered must be furnished to the adjudicator or the student will not be allowed to perform.
8. If a band does not enter State Music Performance Assessment, the student conductor from that band cannot
   enter.
