RPME Instructions for Contributors

Research Perspectives in Music Education (RPME) is the official refereed research journal of the Florida Music Educators’ Association. Its Editorial Board is seeking manuscripts for publication. The journal publishes music education research using qualitative and/or quantitative methodologies and manuscripts of a philosophical, historical, or theoretical nature. Reviews of literature with critical synthesis are also considered. In all cases, implications for music educators must be included.

All submissions should conform to The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th edition, 2001),but qualitative, philosophical, and historical manuscripts may conform to The Chicago Manual of Style (15th edition, 2003). Ideal length of the manuscript is 20 to 25 pages, including references, tables, and figures. Longer or shorter papers will be considered when such lengths are justified and in exceptional circumstances. Each manuscript should be accompanied by an abstract of no more than 120 words. Submissions for RPME must not have been submitted simultaneously to another journal. Authors must state on the cover page whether the paper has been presented at a meeting or has been published, in whole or in part, in another venue. RPME will not consider papers that are published elsewhere or do not conform to these guidelines. Authors are responsible for copyright clearance on illustrations, figures, or lengthy quotes used in the report that have been published elsewhere.

Submission Procedures

Authors are invited to submit an abstract and manuscript electronically as a “PDF” or “DOC” attachment with no clue on the identities of the authors to the editor at cvfung@arts.usf.edu. The cover page, including the author’s name, institutional affiliation, email address, mailing address, phone number, and fax number, should be sent as a separate “PDF” or “DOC” attachment. When electronic submission is not possible, the author should send four copies of the manuscript and abstract and one copy of a cover page with the author’s name, institutional affiliation, email address, mailing address, phone number, and fax number to C. Victor Fung, Editor, Research Perspectives in Music Education, Center for Music Education Research, School of Music, FAH 110, College of Visual and Performing Arts, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL 33620, U.S.A. The manuscript and the abstract should not include any clue on the identity of the author(s). For multiple author submissions, the editor will communicate with the first author only. Papers may be submitted at any time, but to ensure consideration for publication in Volume 14, the 2010 issue, submissions must be received by the editor by September 1, 2010.

Review Procedures

Three members of the Editorial Board will blind review submissions that conform to the guidelines above. Authors will normally be notified of the status of the review within two months.
