Clinic session before the meeting was held by the chairman explaining the All- State Audition procedures from filling out the forms to monitoring at the audition site. Members are reminded to check the FBA web site for corrections.

The District 11 meeting of the Florida Bandmasters Association was called to order at 9:26 A.M by Chairman Mark Spreen. The meeting was held at North Port High School.

Introductions were made around the room. New members were reminded to feel free to call others to get answers to their questions.

The minutes from the last meeting were approved as distribute

The chairman reported that the district ended the year with a balance of $7,305.61. $6,805.61 was sent back to FSMA and $500.00 was held back during the summer.

Motion (Evans,C / Boone) That the treasurers report be accepted as presented. PASSED.

The chairman led a discussion on the contents of the items in the packets. The deadlines for any form to be submitted was explained in detail by the chairman.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
The classification proposal was presented and discussed.
Handbook changes were introduced to the membership including: New Adjudicator sheets, marching effect caption dropped, Middle school sight reading changes, state S/E time limit changes, and the introduction of Music Performance Assessment. See FBA State Minutes for complete information.

NEW BUSINESS

Membership dues send to National office in Virginia. Deadline September 15. Includes FBA, FMEA, etc.

Classification Forms - due October 15. No forms accepted after October 30.

Fine $50 for submitting this form late. (payable to FBA District 11)

$100 on the 8th calendar day after the deadline. (payable to FBA District 11)
All - state auditions - Auditions are to be held at Holley Hall, Florida West Coast Symphony Center. The date is Saturday September 15, 2001. Applications are to be in the Chairman’s hand by August 31. Fee - $10.00 per audition. Postmark should be no later than August 29th. No forms accepted after September 7. Director must be present or student will not be allowed to audition.

Honor Band forms included in August Bulletin.

Motion (Bruce / Champagne) That the November 3rd district meeting will be held at Sarasota Middle School. PASSED.

Motion (Bruce /Evans, C) The video and CD audio recording of the marching performance assessment will be $50.00 and that Greg Nielsen will provide this service. PASSED

Motion (Nauman / Fowler) - There will be no group photos taken after the bands performance on the field. Chairman will notify US Group of this decision. PASSED

Motion (Bradley,A /Evans,C) That Amy Bradley chair the middle school pre-festival ceremony with the assistance of Owen Bradley and Scott Forsythe. PASSED

Motion (Santana / Naumann) North Port High School be allowed to enter the district concert music performance assessment for comments only. PASSED

Motion (Evans,C / Bruce) That the senior high jazz ensemble performance assessment be held at Manatee High School on Friday, February 15, 2002 with some solo and ensemble events as needed PASSED

Motion (Evans, C / Evans, K) That the district solo and ensemble performance assessment be held at Lee Middle School on Saturday, February 16, 2002 and that the middle school jazz bands will perform in the afternoon. PASSED

Motion (Bruce /Boone) That the district high school concert performance assessment be held at Lakewood Ranch High School, March 15 & 16 2002. PASSED

Motion (Jarvis / Powell) That the district middle school concert performance assessment be held at North Port High School. TABLED

Marching Band performance assessment will be held at Manatee High School on October 27, 2001. Entry form is due in the chairmans hands on Saturday, September 15, 2001.

Motion (Bruce / Naumann) That the district January meeting be changed from the 19th to the 26th. PASSED

GOOD OF THE ASSOCIATION
Owen Bradley announced that the North Port High School Auditorium will be open later this year and will be state of the art. We all look forward to seeing this facility when it is completed.

Keith Stark announced that you can be placed on the district emailing list by simply sending an email addressed to bandman@home.com with the subject district 11. This will allow him to send out information and reminders to those who join. He also announced updates to the district web site . (http://www.geocities.com/fbad11)

Jim Bruce again welcomed the new members to our district and reminded them to type all forms and be mindful of the deadlines.

Denny Craig announced that the Heartland Marching Festival will be held again this year.

NEXT DISTRICT MEETING - NEW DATE - PLEASE TAKE NOTE. The next meeting will be held at Sarasota Middle School on Saturday November 3, 9:00 AM. This is a change form the published date of November 10. The festival computer program will be featured at our pre meeting session. Plan to attend.
