Item #1 - Call to order & Introductory Remarks

Jason Duckett called meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

          Thanks was given to Jim Beck and the Ft. Caroline Middle School Band Parents for hosting the meeting. Special thanks to Shelly Long – Innovative Fundraising and Tom Warren – M&M Music for providing the meal this evening.

Item #2 - Roll Call

Item #3 - Reading of Previous Minutes and Treasurers Report.

Motion – Green/Rose to dispense with the reading of the minutes.

Our district money has not come back from FSMA at this time.

This years’ district budget should be about the same as last years.

The FBA state budget was made available to all that wished to view it.

Item #4 - Reading of Communications – Distribution of forms.

        • Ward Green (Terry Parker H.S.) presented a letter requesting to host District Marching Festival. This was unanimously accepted by the membership
        • Freddie McClain Jr. (Ed White H.S.) presented a letter requesting permission to attend district marching festival for Comments Only this year. This request was unanimously approved by the membership.

          Classification, All State, and Marching Band registration forms were made available. If you did not get the forms that you need, call Jason Duckett.

          Item #5 - Committee Reports – District Band Summary.

          The All District Account balance is $1424.78 with one outstanding bill for medals.

          The clinicians for this years honor bands are:

          High School Honor Band - Rodney Dorsey

          Middle School Honor Band - Delaine Chapman.

          All District Band Auditions will be held at Fletcher Middle School on January 15, 2002.

          Rehearsals will be held at Sandalwood High School on January 22, 24, 25 and 26, 2002 with the performance being on the 27th also at Sandalwood.

          District decided to add the Jan. 22nd rehearsal to better prepare the students prior to the first rehearsal with the clinician. Directors will be needed to help with this extra rehearsal.

          Item #6 - Unfinished Business:

          Items to be considered from the executive board.

            • Classification revision – check May and July minutes for details.
            • State Festival format change
            • Handbook changes – READ IT!

                FSMA - Florida Music Foundation deals with schlorships. Look in the September Music Director for details.

                FMEA - Pre-Conference clinic on technology in music to be held in Tampa this January.

                FSMA - Academic performance contract to help with 9th and 10th grade eligibility. Check on the FSMA website for details.

                Directors are encouraged to work toward inclusion in the Middle School and High School programs.

                Adjudicators can expect to see 1099 forms when you judge this year. You will be taxed if your earnings exceed $599 per year.

          Item #7 - Committee Reports

          Lee Ponder – All State recording.

          All State Auditions will be held at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, on September 22, 2001. We will have 3 recording rooms all manned with professional recording technicians. The cost per student to audition this year is $20. Please make sure that All State Audition forms are in Jason’s hands by Sept. 7th.

          A mock audition was held to help the membership understand the proper audition procedures.

          Item #8 - New Business

        • Deadlines – Sept 7th All State auditions forms due in Jason’s hands
        • Membership forms and dues due by Sept 15th - Send to:

          MENC 1806 Robert Fulton Dr. Reston VA, 20191 - Check payable to MENC.

        • FSMA Membership must be paid by Sept. 15th as well .

            (send checks to FSMA in Tallahassee).

        • Check entry forms for deadlines for All State Honors Bands.
        • Marching entry forms due in Jason’s hands by Oct. 3rd.
        • Classification forms due in Jason’s hands by Oct.15th.
        • Marching Festival – November 3rd at Terry Parker High School.

              Scheduling for Marching Festival will remain the same as previous years. Bands will perform in order of size (winds and perc.).

              Photos will be done by Walters Photography.

              Percussion and Auxiliary judges will be added this year and the Music Effect caption will be changed to a second Music Performance.

              Middle School Directors and High School Directors with out Marching Groups are needed to take money at the gate.

              The admission for the Marching Festival will be $6.

              Middle School Band that attend the marching festival will be admitted at no charge.

              All bands ratings will be announced at the end of the festival.

          Motion: Wilkerson/Green – Have Walters Photography take photos of Jazz Bands and Color Guards at Solo & Ensemble Festival. Each director should receive a framed photo of their group.

          Item #9 - Other Festival Dates

        • High School Solo & Ensemble – Feb 15-16, 2002
        • Middle School Solo & Ensemble – March 1-2, 2002
        • High School Concert Festival - March 7 - 9, 2002
        • Middle School Concert Festival – March 15-16, 2002
        • H.S. State Solo & Ens, Guard & Jazz - April 1-3, 2002
        • State Concert Festival – Possibly May 6-9, 2002 at UF.

          Item #10 - Nominations to the adjudicators list.

          Motion Duckett – To place Mara Rose on the Adjudicators list for Concert, SR, Marching, Solo & Ens. WW & Brass.

          Passed Unanimously

Item #11 - Suggestions to Committees/Proposals to the Executive Board

None at this time.

Item #12 - Good of the Association

        • John Wilkerson is the proud father of a 9lb 12 oz baby boy named Daniel "Jake" Wilkerson.
        • Mark Dickman announced the UNF/FCCJ Tuba fest on Oct 23rd at FCCJ.
        • Mark Dickman announced the UNF/FCCJ Trombone Day on April 15th.
        • Ward Green will be participating in the MDA jail and bail over Labor Day weekend. Your contributions will be appreciated.
        • Lee Ponder sponsoring Music Composition Contest.
        • Lee Ponder elected ASBDA National President.
        • DASOTA was given Downbeat students awards for Big Band, Symphonic Band and outstanding student soloist.
        • The DASOTA Symphonic Band will be performing at the FMEA Clinic in January. The band will be featured at the opening session on Thursday as well as a full concert on Friday .

          Area Marching Competitions:

        • October 13th - Terry Parker High School.
        • October 20th - Fletcher High School
        • October 27th – St. Augustine High School.
        • November 10th – Fernandina Beach High School
