Item #1 - Call To Order and Introductory Remarks

Meeting was called to order by Chairman Duckett at 7:00 PM.

Thanks was given to John Wilkerson, the Baldwin Middle Senior School band parents and Ware House Music for the meal this evening.

Item #2 - Reading of Previous Minutes

Motion: Green/Brooks - Dispense with the reading of the previous minutes and accept them as published. Motion Passed.

Item #3 - Treasurers Report

  • Current balance is $5,448.93
  • Assessments should be comparable to last year.
  • Assessment form should be out before the Holidays.

Item #4 - Unfinished Business

Discussion of All State Auditions:

  • All State results are posted on the FBA website.
  • Green – Please make sure students are prepared prior to All State Auditions.
  • McQueen - We need to be more prepared to administer auditions.

Marching Festival Discussion:

  • Concerns were expressed about the lack of Middle School director participation in the running of the festival.
  • $5,340 was taken in at the gate, this is down a little from last year.
  • Dist. 17 had 1768 entries at Marching Festival, that was an increase from last year.

Discussion about proposed classification changes:

  • Copies of the proposed classification changes were distributed and much heated discussion took place. The consensus was against the proposals favoring the existing system. Many directors expressed their dislike for the proposal and gave Jason many comments to take to the December board meeting.

FMEA Conference Attendance - January 9-12 in Tampa.

  • November 30th is the new deadline for pre-registration.

Item 5- Committee Reports

District Honor Band:

  • Audition materials will be mailed by December 1st.
  • Auditions will be held at Fletcher Middle School on Tuesday, January 15, 2002 – 5-9 PM
  • Audition fee will be $10 per entry
  • All directors are needed to help with the auditions, please contact Mara Rose or Vince Chicerelli for an audition assignment.
  • All Rehearsals will be held at Sandalwood High School.
  • Jan 22, 24 & 25 from 6 – 9 PM  & Jan 26 from 9-12 & 1-3.
  • The Concert will be held at Sandalwood High School on Jan 27th at 3:00 PM.
  • Students must attend all rehearsals, missed rehearsal will result in dismissal from the group.

Item #6 - New Business

  • Festival scheduling disk – get updates online @ www.flmusiced.org - new disks are $20.
  • Deadlines – 30 days before first day of Solo & Ensemble Festival.
  • After 14 day late, NO FORMS will be accepted.
  • Your assessment forms and CHECK must accompany form. Our district does not use the assessment form on the festival disk, Jason will mail an assessment form to each director .
  • Reminder - election of officers at next meeting.

Festival Dates 2001 - 2002

  • High School S&E - February 15-16, 2002 @ Bartram Trail High School
  • Middle School S&E - March 1-2, 2002 @ Baldwin Middle Senior High School.
  • High School Concert - March 7-9, 2002 @ Mandarin High School
  • Middle School Concert - March 14-15, 2002 @ TBA (note date change)

Motion Rose/Chicerelli – Move Middle School District Concert Music Assessment to March 14-15, 2002 to accommodate the Duval Co. Schools Spring break.

Motion Carries.

Motion Green/Beck – To table to the next meeting the selection of Middle School Concert site. With festival having to run during the school day more time is need to find a suitable site.

If you have special requests for performance times, get your forms to Jason early!!!!

Recordings will be done by Digital Recordings.

High School State Solo & Ensemble, including Guard and Jazz - April 1-3, 2002 at Bartram Trail High School.

State Concert Festival – May 3,4,6 & 7, 2002 at Florida A&M University.

Beck/Wilkerson - Rick Kirkland for Solo & Ensemble Percussion.

Item #9 - Good of the Association

 February 14 – St John’s Superintendent Honors Band.

Frederick Fennell conducting at FCCJ South 11/20/01 at 7:00 PM.

Yule Slide at the Cummer Gallery December 16th 6 – 8 PM.

FBA newest commissioned work will be performed at the FMEA clinic.

Dean Cassells is the new road rep for Ware House of Music.

Vince and Shannon Chicerelli announce their new baby girl, Julianna Grace Chicerelli, born November 2, 2001.
