The meeting was called to order at 6:44 p.m. by Ian Schwindt, district 10 chairman.

INTRODUCTION OF MEMBERS: Each director and guest stood and introduced themselves. Marion Scott director of the Brevard Community Band was introduced as a guest by Andre’ Arrouet.

MOTION – With no objections to dispense with the reading of the previous minutes.

PASSED.

TREASURER’S REPORT – Current status of district funds: $4,221.11

ANNOUNCEMENTS - Distribution of packets containing all necessary forms for this year. Chairman discussed each form and important dates were addressed.

All-State applications are due to Ian Schwindt by Aug. 31st 2001. The application fee is $10.00 per entry. Make sure there is a separate form filled out for each band i.e. 9-10, 11-12.

Classification Forms are due October 15th. Make sure both signatures are on the form before you send them.

Marching Festival – High School directors make sure you send Doug Harris (Marching Festival Host and site coordinator) your e-mail address for further information and communications.

Reminder to get your FBA dues paid if you have not done so yet.

All directors must help with the all-state audition process. Any directors not present to help will have that schools tapes withheld. Auditions will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2001 at Eau Gallie High School – I-95 exit on Eau Gallie Blvd. Head East approximately 11/2 to 2 miles on left hand side.

The All-State Registration Table will close at 10:00 a.m. sharp. Anyone not registered by that time will not be allowed to audition. Please state this to your students.

Directors are reminded about the audition process and emphasis was placed on the importance of staying with the written script.

Honor Band Forms are to be sent directly to the address on the form itself. The fee is $15.00 per band, not entry.

All FBA minutes for this district will be e-mailed to directors.

FBA will now be using the word Assessment to replace Festival for Concert (Festival) Assessment functions.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS –

COMMITTEE REPORTS – State Festival sight-reading issue is being discussed by the board about having an adjudicator mini clinic immediately after stage performance instead of the sight-reading process. The district members agreed with the proposition. This matter has not been voted on yet.

Great discussion took place about directors’s being able to choose their own classification for festival. After much discussion the voice of this district is unanimously against this.

NEW BUSINESS – Scheduling of bands for marching festival.

Motion: Ammerman/Henley – To keep the scheduling the same as last year (size of bands within classification). PASSED. Amendment: McAllister/Arrouet – To allow the district chairman to use his own discretion in scheduling the host band.

Sr. High Concert Festival: March 7-9, 2002 site was cancelled from Satellite HS. Motion: Arrouet/Singletary – Allow the chairman to pick the best site to host Sr. High Concert Festival. PASSED.

Participation Plaques: Motion: Harris/Fayard – District to provide participation plaques to all bands at marching festival and not call out ratings. FAILED.

Motion: T.Singletary/Higgenbotham – District provides participation plaques and call out ratings. PASSED.

NOMINATIONS FOR ADJUDICATOR’S LIST – None.

GOOD OF THE ASSOCIATION – Arrouet: Introduced Marion Scott and Jim Bishop from B.C.C. and encouraged directors to use them as resources with band programs. Marion Scott encouraged directors and students to participate in the B.C.C. Community Band Wednesday’s at 7:00 p.m. at the B.C.C. Cocoa Campus. Contact information will be e-mailed to directors by Andre’ Arrouet.

Jim Bishop also encouraged directors to be involved with the community band. He also encouraged directors to use Jimmy Abato (retired professional in Pt. St. John area) as a resource.

Florida Music Service will be at Satellite H.S. November 6th with solo and ensemble music display.

Ian Schwindt encouraged directors to use Microsoft Word to receive all FBA publications from website.

NEXT MEETING – Will be at The Catfish Place in St. Cloud.
