Item - 8 NEW BUSINESS
None

Item - 9 SELECTION OF DISTRICT ADJUDICATORS
Amy Bradley and Mary Santana offered to help contact possible adjudicators for next year. Discussion was held regarding the use of middle school level adjudicators for middle school MPA. It was pointed out that 3 of the 4 used this year fit that category. Mr. Hendon also pointed out that we are not to use any adjudicator in the same area in consecutive years.

Item - 10 MPA SITES 2002-03
The chairman has contacted The Florida West Coast Symphony Center concerning holding the 2003 Al l - State Auditions at their facility on September 14, 2002

Verbal invitations were offered on the following MPA's
Marching MPA - Manatee High School
Solo and Ensemble MPA - Lee Middle School

A letter was received from North Port High School to host either the High School Concert MPA or the Middle School Concert MPA .

No action was taken at this time on any of the offers and this will be discussed at our next meeting.

Item - 11 NOMINATIONS FOR ADJUDICATORS There were no nominations.

Item - 12 SUGGESTIONS TO ANY COMMITTEES

It will be suggested that Linda Boone be considered for a position on the State Auxiliary Committee. Her expertise in the area of dance and guard should be a well qualified addition to this committee.

Item - 13 PROPOSALS TO EXECUTIVE BOARD
Please note that these next two items were presented at the January meeting.

HONORS JAZZ COMBO - Motion (Carrier/Forsythe) to add an All-State Honors Jazz Combo to the FBA list of performing groups.
Rationale: This would enable a larger number (a more equal percentage) of jazz band students to participate.

MARCHING MUSIC ASSESSMENT - Motion (Santana/Bush) that bands not be permitted to use the same musical selection(s) that were used for FBA Marching Music Assessment the previous year.
Rationale: Since more emphasis has been placed on music performance at marching festival (two of the four required judges are for music performance) we feel more emphasis should be placed on the selection of music. Although we strongly believe that directors should still be permitted to select the music that suits their needs, we do not feel that it is in the best interest of students of Florida or the reputation of the Florida Bandmasters Association to permit directors to use the same piece(s) two years in a row.

Item - 14 GOOD OF THE ASSOCIATION

Mr. Hendon spoke to the membership concerning his educational background and his affiliation with the Florida Bandmasters Association. He also indicated that he was here to tour the North Port High School facility.

FBA SUMMER CONVENTION - will be held July 11 - 13 at the Altamonte Hilton.
