The District 11 meeting of the Florida Bandmasters Association was called to order at 9:05 AM by Chairman Mark Spreen. The meeting was held at Sarasota Middle School.

The minutes from the last meeting were approved.

The chairman reported that the district took in $7806 at the gate for the Music Marching Performance Assessment. The account has a previous balance of$6,805.61
Fogts Music agreed to pay for the cost of the programs, $169.06
Current Balance is $13, 172.75
Motion (Schaer / Bruce) That the treasurers report be accepted as presented. PASSED.

COMMUNICATION
A proposal from a recording company was presented for discussion.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Allstate audition went smoothly in light of circumstances. Thanks to all who helped. Results are expected soon. Check with the web site. In our district 55 students signed up and 51 showed with 4 DNA's.

Thanks to Manatee High School for hosting the Music Marching Performance Assessment. Also thanks to the Middle School directors who coordinated the Star Spangled Banner. We had good coverage in the Sarasota and Bradenton newspapers.

FMEA Clinic/ Conference in Tampa January 9 -12. Tickets are needed for all performances including Small Schools honor band and the middle school groups. Technology session will be held on Wednesday from 1 - 5 PM

Motion (Boone / Schaer) to revisited the motion (Jarvis / Powell) That the district middle school concert performance assessment be held at North Port High School. After much discussion the tabled Motion FAILED

NEW BUSINESS
Solo and Ensemble will be held at Manatee High School on Friday and Lee Middle on Saturday.

Festival Disk needs to have accompanist entered in for scheduling.

Entry form (signed Hard Copy, assessment check, and disk) in the hands of the chairman on January 19, 2002.

Late fees will be collected after dates listed on district calendar.

Manatee County Schools check with Joe Powell concerning procedure for your fees. Late date for Manatee County is February 4, 2002.

Any special request for times on S/E or Jazz Band should be made on disk.

Jazz Bands will be scheduled by size within classification.

High School Music Concert Performance Assessment will be held at Lakewood Ranch. Special request in regards to performance date should be made in writing as well as on the festival disk.

The district should expect to pick up the custodial cost involved at Lakewood High School. there is money in our budget to cover this.

Motion (Schaer / Owens) That the Lakewood Ranch third band be allowed to perform first on Friday . PASSED

Bob Schear will look into getting a sponsor for the programs

Motion (Owen / Erickson) That the district middle school concert performance assessment be held at Southeast High School pending receipt of letter. PASSED

Recording will be handled by Greg Neilsen

SELECTION OF NEW OFFICERS
Motion (Schaer / Bruce) That Keith Stark be nominated for District Chairman. PASSED

Motion (Stark / Schaer ) That Mary Santana be nominated for District Secretary. PASSED

STATE FESTIVAL DATES AND SITE
April 24,25,26,27 Cypress Lake Center for the Arts, Ft. Myers

GOOD OF THE ASSOCIATION
FMEA will have a session on emerging leaders. If interested in getting involved contact Cindy Lippert.
Alfred Publishers is interested in presenting a workshop provided enough teachers attend.
In Service Credit for attending FBA meeting / workshops will be looked into by Cindy Lippert. She advised that we could receive in service for FMEA

NEXT DISTRICT MEETING - Amy Bradley will present a clinic on Clarinet sound. Meeting will be held at Riverview High School on January 26, 2002 at 9:00 AM
