Meeting called to order at 9:07 a.m. by Chairman Miles. The Chairman thanked the parents and directors at Charles W. Flanagan High for hosting today’s meeting.

Treasurer’s Report

Briefly read by Mr. Miles. We have roughly $36,000 operational funds available.

Communications

  1. From Lockhart Stadium for next year’s Marching Band P.A., charging us $2,500 plus 5% of the gate and only offering us our choice of a Sunday, Wednesday or Thursday. The chairman highly recommends another site. Please submit a letter if you have a suitable site and would like to host.
  2. Letters from South Broward H.S., University School of Nova M.S., Piper High #2 Band, American Heritage H.S. and M.S. and a verbal request from Ft. Lauderdale H.S. (letter to follow ASAP) requesting to perform for Comments Only at Concert P.A. were accepted. Motion: McClain/Cole to approve. PASSED
  3. Unfinished Business

    None

    Committee Reports

    The chairman explained, in detail, a proposed clinic format for Jazz Band P.A. as follows: All bands are assessed by 3 adjudicators while a 4th adjudicator is in clinic with the previous band. Adjudicator # 4 then returns to the panel for the next band while one of the assessing adjudicators leaves to clinic the band leaving the stage. Motion: Cole/ Rubio to hire a 4th adjudicator and implement this format. PASSED

    New Business

  4. Middle School entry disk, entry forms and check are/were due January 31st. Late fee $50. After the 8th day, $100 fine. On the 15th day or later, no entry forms will be accepted.
  5. High School Jazz Band Performance Assessment- February 14- Nova High School.

High School Solo and Ensemble Performance Assessment- February 15th and 16th- Taravella H.S. Middle School Jazz Band Performance Assessment- February 28th- Stranahan High School.

Middle School Solo and Ensemble Performance Assessment- March 1st and 2nd- Silver Trail M.S. (south site) Ramblewood M.S. (north site).

State Festival Dates and Sites

S&E Auxiliary, and Jazz- April 1- 3 at Bartram Trail H.S. in Jacksonville

Concert Bands- April 24- 27 at Cypress Lake SOTA in Fort Myers.

Election of Officers

John Nista was nominated by Steve Salo for the office of District 15 secretary for 2002- 2004. Motion: Charles/Jenkins to the accept nomination. PASSED. No other candidates were nominated. Congratulations to John Nista, our new secretary.

Assessment Dates for Next Year

Motion: Parsons/ Curry to hold the District 15 Marching Band P.A on Nov. 2nd. PASSED

Motion: Dorfman/ David to use Oct. 26th as a back up date for Marching Band P.A if a suitable site is not available on November 2nd, but available on Oct. 26th. PASSED

Members who have suitable sites and wish to host should submit a letter to the chairman by the next meeting.

Motion: Lieberman/ ? to hold M.S. Concert Band P.A on April 9- 12 with April 2- 5 as back up if spring break becomes an issue. PASSED

Motion: Charles/ Curry to hold H.S. Concert Band P.A on March 19- 22 with March 12- 15 as back up if FCAT conflicts. PASSED

Marching Band 11/2 or 10/26 depending on suitable site

High School Jazz 2/13, Solo and Ensemble 2/14 and 2/15.

Middle School Jazz 2/27, Solo and Ensemble 2/28 and 3/1

High School Concert 3/19- 22 and 3/12- 15 pending FCAT schedule

Middle School Concert 4/9- 12 or 4/2- 5 pending Spring Break Schedule

Nominations for Adjudicators List

None

Nominate Clinicians for All- State Bands

Dr. Hill from Mercer University for 9th and 10th grade band

Anthony Williams from Broward County for the 7th and 8th grade honor band

Dr. Brown from Maurice Brown for the Jazz Band

Frank Battisti from New England Conservatory for 11th and 12th grade band

Proposals to the Executive Board

Suggestion for Committees: Just as the handbook addresses a procedure for individual members to address concerns to committees, that a set procedure needs to be put in place for committees to respond to individual concerns. (As it stands, many concerns go to committee and remain unanswered.

Suggested Format For Response:

  1. A letter of acknowledgement to include that the concern was received and a date when committee members will meet to discuss
  2. A written response from the committee including conclusions and findings of the committee
