Item 1 – Call to order and Introductory remarks

  • Tony welcomes the members and the guest.
  • Tony thanks Milton High School for hosting the meeting.

Item 3 - Minutes

  • Reading of previous minutes
  • Hannah/Hooten accept the minutes as printed.

Item 4 – Treasurer’s Report

  • Ended the year with 554.50 in the account.
  • Proposed current year budget.

Item 6 – Unfinished Business

  • District 13 Reclassification proposal has been referred to committee, it will be voted on by the Board in December. It will then be voted by the Membership in January. Discussion by the membership concerning this matter was mainly negative. Some concerns relating to Sight Reading were discussed. Mostly negative discussion concerning these issues. The district feels that if we lower the standards, we lower the expectations. This district voted unanimously to vote against this proposal.
  • Festival Band Festival Recommendation discussion by the membership. Negative discussion was held concerning these changes. The membership of FBA District 1 is against this proposal.

Item 7 – New Business

  • Membership Dues & Enrollment Forms are due September 15. Send to: MENC, 1806 Robert Fulton Dr., Reston, VA 20191. Active dues: 134.00.
  • FSMA school dues payment to FSMA due by September 15.
  • Classification forms are due to District Chairman by September 15.
  • All-State Auditions will be held Saturday, September 15 at Choctawhatchee High School. Deadline for applications forms to Chairman postmarked by August 25.
  • 7th and 8th Grade Honor Band and Small Schools Honor Band applications must be postmarked by September 26, 2001.
  • Marching Band Festival will be held on October 13 at Choctawhatchee High School. Items for discussion:

-Pictures of every band will be used in the program if they are sent to Choctaw by the end of September

-Scheduling – by band size

-Ticket prices – 7.00/6.00/3.00

Item 9 – Other Festival Dates and Sites

  • Solo and Ensemble Festival at Baker HS February 22/23
  • Jazz Festival at Niceville HS March 1/2
  • HS Concert Festival at FWB HS March 15/16
  • MS Concert Festival at Bailey Middle/FWB HS March 21/22

Item 10 – Adjudicators For Marching Festival

  • Rodney Dasinger, Eddie Page, Gary Bradley were recommended

Item 11 – Nominations for the Adjudicators List

  • Jim Knight nominated Steve McLendon and Jimmy Harrison

Voted by secret ballot: passed

Item 13 – Good of the Association

  • Thanks to the Milton Band Parents for the food and Mr. Weaver for hosting the meeting.
  • Tom Fitzpatrick has been nominated for President of FBA. The District is encouraged to support Tom in his effort to get elected.
  • West Florida Marching Band Festival October 20th
  • Friendship Marching Band Festival October 27th
