ITEM #1: CALL TO ORDER & Introductory Remarks

Richard Davenport, District Chairman called the meeting to order at 7:10pm after a meal provided by Neil Gray.

New directors were welcomed into the district.

ITEM #2: ROLL CALL & Introduction of New Directors/Guests

ITEM #3: READING OF PREVIOUS MINUTES

The reading of previous minutes was dispensed with according to the wishes of the membership.

ITEM #4 FINANCIAL REPORT (no vote necessary) -

Balance of $500 in account. (FSMA will be returning $4797.37 by Sept. 1)

ITEM #5: COMMUNICATIONS

ITEM #6: UNFINISHED BUSINESS

    • Reactions to July Board & General meeting minutes

Directors expressed the same concerns about proposal the came before the board as were expressed in the final minutes of the last district meeting.

    • Revised District Festival Comment Forms

Copies will be enclosed with minutes.

    • Classification Proposals

District membership expressed disapproval of proposed classification system. Reasons given included the effective elimination of small rural schools from state qualification and destroying the initial purpose of the Small School Honor Band.

 

ITEM #7: COMMITTEE REPORTS

    • Sign up for committees

Directors were given the opportunity to sign up for committees of their choice

ITEM #8: NEW BUSINESS

    1. FBA/FMEA/MENC Membership Dues & Enrollment Forms due September 15 (send to MENC)
    2. FSMA school dues payment by September 15 (to FSMA)

    3. Classification Forms due October 15 to District Chairman (Principal & Director signature required!)
      • SR High: Report grades 9-12
      • Jr/Sr High reports grades 9-12, even though using 7th & 8th graders
      • Middle School: report grades 7 & 8 only
      • LATE FINE: $50 after deadline; $100 on 8th calendar day after deadline.
    4. ALL-STATE AUDITIONS, Monday, September 17, 4:00-6:00 pm
      • Site: _ Mosley High School_______________
      • Audition Forms due to District Chairman by September 10
      • Fee: $10 per student (due with application)
      • Check eligibility and audition info updates at www.flmusiced.org/fba
      • LATE FINE: $50 after deadline; $100 on 8th calendar day after deadline.

      • PLEASE SCREEN STUDENTS: This is an audition for exceptionally talented and PREPARED students; DO NOT send students for the "experience".
      • Mock Audition demonstration

    Directors were asked to reference the mock audition on the attached page. Directors were also cautioned not to deviate from the exact wording.

      1. Small School & Middle School Honor Band nomination forms
        • Due September 26 to respective coordinator.
        • Fee: $15 per school
      2. DISTRICT MARCHING FESTIVAL, Saturday, October 27, Tommy Oliver Stadium
        • Host: Mosley High School
        • Scheduling for festivals will be as usual with class and size used to determine order. Lowest classification will be scheduled first and size will be used to determine order in class. We will start at noon.
        • Entry Form due to District Chairman by October 4
        • LATE FINE: $50 after deadline; $100 on 8th calendar day after deadline.
        • Adjudication: 2 Music Performance, General Effect, M&M, Auxiliary

      Adjudication for marching will follow the above format.

          • Chaperones/Filming/Handbook Requirements

      Directors should not expect more than one chaperone per 10 students to be admitted without charge to the marching event.

      Only one individual will be allowed admitted to the authorized area to video your band during their performance.

      Directors should review the requirements and regulations covering festival participation to avoid problems at the last minute.

       

          • Encore Photo will be taking each band’s group picture after their performance.

        • DISTRICT SOLO & ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL, February 8 & 9, Baptist College of Florida in Graceville
          • DISTRICT CONCERT FESTIVAL

      NORTH: Thursday, March 14, Chipley High School (Host: Davenport/Williams)

      SOUTH: Fri/Sat, March 15-16, Gulf Coast Community College (Host: Rusty Garner)

          • North Band Site: TBA
          • State S&E/Jazz/Auxiliaries Festival: West Port MS/HS, Ocala, April 1-3, 2002

      ITEM #10: ADJUDICATORS FOR FESTIVALS

      Marching Festival Judges:

      Tom Fitzpatrick and Ernest Hebson will be judging Music Performance. Jim Knight will judge General Effect

      Eddie Steadman will do M&M and Richard DeLaFuente

      ITEM #11: NOMINATIONS FOR ADJUDICATORS LIST (voting must be by secret ballot)

      There were no nominations for the adjudicators list.

      Thanks to Neil Gray for the great seafood dinner that was provided for all the directors and guests.

      ITEM #16: NEXT DISTRICT MEETING

        • Monday, November 5, 2001, Everitt Middle School, 6:00 Dinner, 7:00 meeting.
        • Playground will be sponsoring the "Market Street Brass" sometime in October.
