Item 5. Reading of communications

Item 6 Unfinished business.

1. Discussion of festivals - Thanks to those that hosted. Cindy encouraged more people to share the responsibility of hosting.

Most forms and all results are posted on the website (http://flmusiced.org)

2. Applications for hosting festivals

a. Application from Lyman High School requesting to host Middle School Solo and Ensemble.

b. Application from Lyman High School requesting to host Middle School Concert Band Festival.

Motion: Gorecki/Sauls To accept both applications. Passed

3. Plaques for next year will be given. Many middle schools did not take their

plaques. Please contact Cindy and she will get them to you.

4. Adjudication evaluation forms, fill out and return to chairman. Concerns may also be communicated to the district chairperson. Please fill out positive forms as well as negative. Cindy has forms and they can be printed out from the website.

5. Training sessions for marching adjudication and possibly concert adjudication will take place this spring and summer. These will be held around the state. Plan to attend.

6. Summer convention is local for us this year. Please plan to attend. Several events will be held at Lake Brantley High School. Any help you can give will be appreciated.

Item 7 Committee Reports

Marching festival committee. We need to look into distributing the workload more evenly. More middle school band directors need to get involved. Other districts require middle school band directors to work since the gate money pays for district expenses. If anyone is interested in sitting on this committee please contact Cindy ASAP. We cannot count on the Deland Boosters to host this event indefinitely. We need to plan ahead.

Item 8 New Business

1. Review of Dates

All-State Auditions September 21, 2002

Marching Festival: November 9, 2002

High School S & E February 7 & 8, 2003

Middle School S & E February 21 & 22, 2003

High School Concert March 6, 7 & 8, 2003

Middle School Concert April 3, 4 & 5, 2003

2. District fall meeting August 26, 2002 (please bring list of all-state auditionees)

    1. All-state requirements will be sent in the May bulletin or can be found on the web. (http://flmusiced.org)
    2. Motion: Malcolm/Hedgecoth Limit our district professional resource library to superior performances only. Rationale: The goal is to raise the district level of performance. This will help limit the size of the library and hold district members to a high degree of professionalism. Passed

Item 9 State Festival 2003 Dates and Sites

1. Dates April 16, 17, 19 All sites will run at the same time. Sites are currently TBA. This is due to FSMA requiring rotating dates for Orchestra, Chorus and Band. Please check the deadlines for the dates for the next few years.

2. Discussion of State format. It has been discussed throughout the state to add a clinic portion to the rotation. A pilot program was pursued in Pinellas County. Cindy participated and related the details to us. It seemed to be a positive experience for all involved. If it comes up at the board meeting our membership agreed we would like to be considered to participate in any type of pilot program that may be offered.

3. Listening to other bands at District and State levels. Bands attending state are no longer required to listen to the other bands in their block. Cindy encouraged everyone to stay later or go early to hear some bands. On the state level it would also be nice to have your students be there to support bands from our district, or at the very least give them an audience.

Item 10 Suggestions to any Committees

A list of corrections to the French Horn Solo and Ensemble list was given to P.L. Malcolm by respected local private teacher Bill Robinson.

Motion: Malcolm/Hedgecoth Submit list of corrections to S & E committee. Passed

Motion: Bottomley/Malcolm Florida Bandmasters Association reinstate a hard copy of the Concert Music List and continue to use the website as a secondary source. Passed

Rationale: Inconsistencies between printed music list and the one posted on the web. Not in a sortable format. Frequent unavailability of website. Printing the list is cost prohibitive and distributing a printed list, even at a fee, is more practical at this time.

Motion: Watford/Muse A hard copy of all information should be sent to the participating schools for state solo and ensemble and concert festival. The website should be a supplementary source of information, not the primary. Passed

Motion: Malcolm/Line Only acoustic pianos be used for state solo and ensemble. Passed
