ITEM NO. 1 - CALL TO ORDER: The first meeting of the year was called to order by District Chairman, Paul Wilson, at 5:01pm

ITEM NO. 2 - ROLL CALL AND INTRODUCTION OF NEW DIRECTOR'S AND GUESTS: Mike Parks briefly introduced all new directors in OCPS. No new private school directors were in attendance. Attendance was handled via a sign up sheet. Directory forms were filled out with the incentive that they would be used for choosing the evening’s Door Prize winner.

ITEM NO. 3 - READING OF PREVIOUS MINUTES: There were no objections or changes to the previous minutes, so they stood approved and distributed.

ITEM NO. 4 - TREASURER'S REPORT: Mr. Wilson gave the report

Proposed budget for the current year is $56,325.00 with the anticipated assessment - based on a $5000.00 Marching Festival Gate – being $5.62.

Motion to Approve Bill Reinecke/Lee Sellers PASSED

ITEM NO. 5 - COMMUNICATIONS: Mrs. Powell then went over the contents of the District Packets, which included:

Marching Festival Entry Form – HS Only (All other entries will be done on "Festival" program.)

All-State Requirements

Calendar of Events – Bright Goldenrod Sheet (ALL DATES ON THIS SHEET ARE CORRECT!)

Classification Form – Due to Mr. Wilson by Oct. 10

All-State Entry Form – duplicate as needed – one form for each band

Middle School Honor Band Nomination Form

Small School Honor Band Nomination Form

 

A. Champion Photo requests to do photos at MUSIC PERFORMANCE

ASSESSMENT

    1. Anyone who needs to purchase their school copy of the "Festival" software program can do so by sending a check and self-addressed stamped CD mailer to: Curtis Wilson, 1428 E. 48th St., Savannah, GA 31404

 

ITEM NO. 6 - UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

    1. Olympia High School submitted a letter requesting to be the site for High School Solo and Ensemble Festival. Motion to approve by Lee Sellers/Bill Reinecke PASSED
    2. Lockhart Middle School and Discovery Middle School both submitted letters requesting to be the site for Middle School Solo and Ensemble Festival. After discussion a vote was taken to decide which school would be the site. Lokhart M.S. won with 22 votes.
    3. Winter Park High School and Dr. Phillips High School both submitted letters to be the site for the High School Concert Festival. A vote was taken and Winter Park High School won with 15 votes.

ITEM NO. 7 - NEW BUSINESS:

A. Membership dues and enrollment forms should be sent to MENC, 1806 Robert

Fulton Dr., Reston, VA 20191-4348

    1. Classification forms and Marching Assessment Forms and Fees due to Paul Wilson on October 10, 2001 (change from date listed on calendar and forms)
    2. All-State Audition Application Forms due to Paul Wilson on August 31, 2001 or postmarked by August 28, 2001 (change from date listed on calendar and form) ALL-STATE ENTRY FORMS MUST BE TYPED OR YOUR STUDENTS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR THE ALL-STATE BAND. All-State auditions will be Saturday, September 15th at Piedmont Lakes Middle School
    3. Small Schools Honor Band and 7th and 8th Grade Honor Band forms are due to the respective chairman on September 26th. (Do not give forms to Mr. Wilson!)
    4. Marching Band Festival is Saturday, October 27, 2001 at the Florida Citrus Bowl.
    5. The original State Solo and Ensemble Festival date and place have CHANGED. The new date and location is TBA.
    6. There have been some STATE changes. Please see your state minutes on the FBA web site which is now on the FSMA server at "flmusiced.org".

Mr. Wilson noted that Special Music Approval Request is due to the music committee by November 15, 2001.

ITEM NO. 13 - GOOD OF ASSOCIATION:

    1. Evans High School will perform in the 2002 Sugar Bowl.
    2. Colonial High School will perform in the 2002 Hollywood Bowl.
    3. Apopka High School will be traveling to France.
    4. University High School will be performing in the Silicon Valley Classic Bowl
    5. Winter Park High School will be ?
    6. Edgewater High School has a new band room.
