The Orchestra at Melbourne High School in Melbourne, FL is a 140+ member program featuring five string orchestra classes, a symphony orchestra, IB Music, Tri-M Music Honors Society, and Happy Harmonies, an MHS community outreach group. The MHS Orchestra seeks to create lifelong musicians who respect and care for the world around them while maintaining a high standard of performance. Consistently earning Superior ratings at District and State Music Performance Assessment, "Mel-Hi" Orchestra students are well-rounded individuals, striving for personal academic achievement while also participating in various sports, clubs, and activities on- and off-campus.
The Orchestra Director is Michelle Eggen, cellist and graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelors and Masters in Music Education, and the String Consultant is Gary Mousseau, bassist and graduate of University of South Florida with a Bachelors in Music Education.

Orchestra and IB Music Director
Michelle Eggen is the Orchestra Director at Melbourne High School and is a co-conductor for the Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra. As a professional cellist, she performs with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra while maintaining an active private studio. She has served as a past FOA District Chairperson for District 10 and currently serves as the FOA Ethics Chair. Mrs. Eggen is also an active adjudicator and clinician. She holds a Bachelors and Masters in Music Education from Florida State University. She enjoys traveling, collecting Polish Pottery, and spending time with her husband Nick and their two miniature schnauzers Hans and Trudy.
