A flagship performing ensemble at Florida Atlantic University, the Wind Ensemble includes 50 of the finest student musicians at the university working with their conductor, Kyle Prescott. Celebrated for its performances of both masterworks of the literature and groundbreaking works by contemporary composers, they have received three separate invitations to perform at prestigious Southern Division Conferences of the College Band Director’s National Association (CBDNA) in Louisiana, South Carolina, and Georgia. The Wind Ensemble has collaborated with renowned visiting composers including John Mackey, Bruce Broughton, Michele Fernandez, James Syler, and Scott McAllister, providing them with valuable opportunities for artistic growth. Beyond their artistic achievements, Wind Ensemble musicians actively engage with the community, hosting the largest concert band festival in the state and teaching for FAU’s summer band camps benefiting under-resourced elementary school students.

Dr. Kyle Prescott 

Florida Atlantic University
Director of Bands

Dr. Kyle Prescott is Director of Bands and Professor of Music at Florida Atlantic University, where he oversees the University Bands program. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from The University of Texas at Austin, where he studied under Jerry F. Junkin.

Dr. Prescott’s ensembles have performed at the Southern Division Conference of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) multiple times. He has contributed to the “Teaching Music Through Performance” series and presented his research on musician-cryptologists at Oxford University and the National Security Agency. Notably, he’s the only conductor invited to conduct both an All-State Band and All-State Orchestra in Florida.

A sought-after conducting pedagogue, Dr. Prescott’s graduate students hold faculty positions at prominent universities. He serves as President of the Florida Collegiate Music Education Association and as Conductor and Music Director of the Florida Wind Symphony and FWS Jazz Orchestra.
