Performance: The Adum K-8 Music Performance Program is a vertically aligned, student-centered program serving elementary and middle school musicians through Middle School Orchestra, Middle School Jazz Band, Middle School Modern Band, Elementary Modern Band, the student-led Music Ambassadors Program (MAP), and much more at Kenneth E. Adum K-8. Rooted in performance excellence, contemporary pedagogy, and advocacy, Adum K-8 Music programs emphasizes student voice, leadership, and access to high-quality music education.
Jonathan Casañas
Kenneth E. Adum PK-8 Magnet School
Music Specialist
Jonathan Casañas is an award-winning music educator, arts advocate, and instructional leader with Hillsborough County Public Schools in Tampa, Florida. He currently serves as Music Instructor and Related Arts Team Leader at Kenneth E. Adum K–8, where he leads a vibrant, community-driven music program and coordinates the Music Ambassadors Program (MAP)—a student-led initiative that empowers young musicians as advocates for music education across the Tampa Bay region.
Casañas serves on the Florida Music Educators Association (FMEA) State Advocacy Committee and is a past president of the Hillsborough County Elementary Music Educators Council (HCEMEC), where he has helped expand grant funding, community partnerships, and outreach initiatives supporting music programs districtwide. His work centers on building sustainable advocacy systems, developing student voice, and mobilizing community collaborators to strengthen music education access for all students.
Bernie Hendricks Jr.
Ocoee High
Band Director
Bernie Hendricks has been the Director of Bands at Ocoee High School since the school opened in 2005, and at Robinswood Middle School in Orlando for eight years before that. Mr. Hendricks is a Graduate of Florida A & M University, where he served as University Band President and percussion section leader of the Marching 100. He is a Past-President of the Florida Bandmasters Association and former FBA district secretary and treasurer. Mr. Hendricks has served FMEA as Chairman of the Multicultural Network and a member of the state executive board, the advocacy committee, and the awards committee. He is a recipient of the Sousa Foundation's Legion of Honor and a Semi-Finalist for the Grammy Music Educator Award. Mr. Hendricks is an active adjudicator and clinician throughout the state of Florida and has presented many professional development sessions at our state conference and in local schools and districts.
Juan Tellado
Kenneth E. Adum PK-8 Magnet School
Music Teacher
Juan Tellado is an elementary music educator with Hillsborough County Public Schools and a graduate of the University of South Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education in 2018. He currently teaches PYP music at Kenneth E. Adum K-8 and serves as Chairperson for Technology in Music Education (TIME) for the Hillsborough County Elementary Music Educators Council.
Mr. Tellado remains highly active as both a performer and clinician. He serves as a marching band instructor at Plant High School and Sunlake High School, performs as a soprano cornetist with the Tampa Brass Band, and is principal trumpet with the Tampa Bay Symphonic Winds. He also maintains a private trumpet studio.
Stacey Jones
Kenneth E. Adum PK-8 Magnet School
Director of Bands/Orchestra
Ms. Jones is the Founding Director of middle school instrumental music at Kenneth E. Adum K8 magnet school in Tampa Florida, where she teaches middle school Band and Orchestra.
Ms. Jones holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from The University of South Florida. In her time at USF, Ms. Jones was a member and leader in the Herd of Thunder Marching Band and studied conducting and music education under the baton of Dr. Matthew McCutchen, Dr. John Carmichael, and Dr. William Wiedrick. She also studied trumpet with Dr. Jay Coble and served as a principal member and performer of the USF Symphonic and Wind Ensembles, as well as the Jazz Band and “Rumble” Pep Band. She is also a member of the National Women’s Music Fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota, and maintains active memberships with The National association for Music educators, the Florida Bandmasters Association, the Florida orchestra association, and The North American Brass Band Association.
