Discover how to utilize the steel pan in the elementary music classroom. During this session, teachers will learn how to integrate jumbie pans, tenor pans and other steel pans with the conventional Orff classroom.

Music Teacher/Steel Band Director
Shaun Bennett is a North Florida Native. He has a BM Degree in Composition and Theory from Jacksonville University. Shaun has served as past President of the Duval County Elementary Music Educators Association and the Vice-Chair of the Duval County Arts Advisory Council. He currently plays tenor pan with the New Generation Branches Steel Orchestra. He has played in Miami Carnival Panorama the last three years. He was the 2017 recipient of the Janice Lancaster Professional Development Scholarship to attend the Ellie Mannette Festival of Steel from FEMEA, where he met Ellie Mannette the father of the Steel Pan. Shaun has presented at the FEMEA Curriculum fair the past two years. As an educator he has taught at Ortega Elementary for 6 years and elementary steel band. His students have performed in local museums, festivals and even at the FMEA Steel Band festival. He has begun a new teaching position at Otis Mason Elementary school and hopes to begin a Master's degree in the next year.
