Game On Handout

Over the years I have created a hand full of assessment activities that help students stay engaged and have fun while at the same time allows the teacher to assess and review materials in a teamwork atmosphere. In this session I am proposing to share five musical games with voluntary audience participation. These five games work well in the elementary classroom because they are engaging, can be done with large or small groups, and are very cost effective. My five games are Music Basketball, Mallet Relay, Music 7 Up, Instrument Charades, and many varieties of Four Corners. I will go over the directions/rules, game play, and how to create the game yourself for your classroom. Then we will actually run through each game with session volunteers. After each game activity I can answer questions if any.

Stephanie McNaughton

Westgate Elementary School
Music Teacher

Stephanie McNaughton graduated from FSU with a degree in Music Education and an emphasis in instrumental music. She is currently the music teacher at Westgate Elementary in Pinellas County, Florida where she teaches General Music, Chorus, Orff, and Recorder.
During her time with Pinellas county she has served on the board for the Pinellas County Music Educators Association, chaired All County events, presented at conferences and symposiums, developed assessments, taught band for the city of St. Petersburg, mentored other educators, and earned her National Board certification.
Something of utmost importance to her is the concept of being a lifelong learner. One of her favorite ways to learn is by supervising college interns and collaborating with colleagues.
Stephanie's favorite way to stay connected to her students is to continually develop her musicianship through community ensembles like SPC Wind Symphony, USF Wind Band, and the Florida College Wind Ensemble.
